Who we mean

Crypto-native

Crypto-native companies are ones where blockchains or tokens are the product. If the chain went away, the business would too. They build wallets, exchanges, protocols, on-chain infrastructure, and the developer tools that sit on top of them. Their day-to-day problems include key management, smart contract risk, chain selection, and token-related legal questions.

Examples

  • Phantom – self-custodial crypto wallet.
  • Uniswap Labs – builds the Uniswap protocol and the apps around it.
  • Alchemy – node infrastructure and APIs for developers building on blockchains.

Crypto-adjacent

Crypto-adjacent companies use crypto as one part of a bigger business, usually one that serves mainstream customers who never think about chains. That covers stablecoin payments, compliance and blockchain analytics, custody, fintech, tokenized assets, and enterprise software. Their day-to-day problems are bank partnerships, licensing, compliance programs, and fitting on-chain rails into existing products.

Examples

  • Bridge – stablecoin orchestration APIs for businesses. Stripe bought it for $1.1B, and the deal closed Feb 4, 2025.
  • Chainalysis – blockchain analytics and compliance tooling for businesses and government agencies.
  • Paxos – regulated issuer and infrastructure provider behind enterprise stablecoins, including PayPal USD (PYUSD).

These companies are illustrative. Most are much larger than the 5–50 person teams our members work at. We use them because readers will recognize them, not because they are members or partners.

For: senior product, engineering, and ops people at 5–50 person crypto-native or crypto-adjacent startups in the US who make real decisions every week, plus a limited number of vetted advisors with real crypto experience.

Not for: traders, speculators, students, people who want to learn passively, or anyone looking to sell services to members. We don't cover prices, tokens to buy, or market calls.

About the founder

Alan Bennett, CPA (inactive), is the founder of Club Crypto, a private operator network for product, engineering and operations people at crypto-native and crypto-adjacent startups in the US.

Alan spent more than 23 years at a public semiconductor company, rising from Corporate Tax Manager to Vice President of Finance and Corporate Controller. He started his career in tax and holds a Master's in Taxation from the University of Southern California.

He started Club Crypto to give experienced product, engineering and operations people in crypto a place to compare notes with peers, because most crypto communities are built for traders, newcomers and founders, not for the people running the day-to-day.

Club Crypto is informational only and does not provide investment, legal, tax or accounting advice.
